back in the saddle

For the first several months after Isaac was born, I relied on "looking good for just having a baby".  I had zero motivation to work out or lose weight.  I was in mommy survival mode.  When the weather got warmer and I started thinking about wearing less clothes and showing more skin, I knew the time had come to lose some weight.  I have technically lost all of my "baby weight" but I wasn't happy with my weight when I got pregnant, so I'm right back where I started 16 months ago.

I saw this quote on Pinterest last week, and it really struck a nerve with me.

It's so true.

I have plenty of excuses for not eating healthy.  I like junk food.  The foods that taste the best (to me) have lots of calories, fat, salt, and sugar.  My excuse for not working out was, simply put, Isaac.  His naps were so unpredictable (and short) for so many months, I felt like I couldn't work out while he was napping.  That was my "me time".  There was also the option of working out first thing in the morning before he woke up for the day, but I just couldn't do it.  Right around the time Isaac hit 6 months, his morning nap lengthened to 1.25-2 hours.  It was great, and I knew then that I didn't have an excuse not to work out anymore.  Except... I found another excuse.  What if the treadmill woke him up?  There was no way I was going to risk that.

In the end, I woke up one day and decided I was tired of complaining about my body and had to do something about it.  I got on the treadmill, started tracking my food through sparkpeople.com, and stopped making excuses.  In 2 weeks I have lost 3 pounds, which is great for me.  I started the c25k program today, and I'm feeling really good about myself.  Rodney is so proud of me, which is great motivation to keep going, but I'm proud of myself too.  I will lose weight and fit into smaller clothes.  I will maintain a healthier lifestyle.  I will do it this time.
