weekend recap

I haven't done a weekend recap in quite some time, because we don't do anything on weekends anymore.  Now that it's tax season, Rodney works on Saturday mornings, then we stay home the rest of Saturday.  We go to church on Sunday morning and that usually throws Isaac off-schedule and we spend the rest of the day trying to be "normal".

Rodney didn't have to work Saturday (probably his only Saturday off until after April 15th), so we went to the big city to do a little shopping.  We were nervous about how Isaac would do away from home for so long, but he knocked our socks off and was a perfect angel.  He didn't get quite as much sleep as he normally would, but he slept a ton in the afternoon and evening to make up for it.

Saturday night we decided to have Isaac sleep in the pack n play instead of the rock n play, as the first step in transitioning him to the crib.  He sleeps soooo well in the RNP that we just hated to pull the trigger, but I really want him to move to his crib soon.  We put him in the PNP in our room first so we could see how he did sleeping flat.  I had a feeling I would be replacing the paci a lot, and I would rather do it right beside my bed instead of going across the hall.

We did our normal bedtime routine and put him in the PNP.

He fell asleep on his own very quickly, just like normal, and I was filled with hope.

Rodney and I sat down to watch Toy Story 3 together (great movie, btw).  Isaac didn't move a muscle the whole time, but as soon as I went to bed at 11:00 he started stirring around and let out a big cry.  I replaced his paci and put my hand on his chest and he settled right down.  Over the next 8 hours this same scenario played out many many times.  Rodney says it could have been worse, he could have wanted to eat once or twice (which he hasn't done in the middle of the night since around 5 weeks old), but it left us all very tired today.

Against our better judgement, we took Isaac to church this morning, but he was the perfect baby.  He slept most of the day, making up for his poor night's sleep.  We took advantage of the beautiful 60 degree weather and took a stroll around the park, but he slept through it all.  We also learned that the rules have changed since we adopted Cash 2.5 years ago, and dogs are now allowed in the city parks here.  We can't wait to take Isaac and Cash next time we have a nice day.

We just tucked Isaac into bed...in his rock 'n play.  We'll try the pack n play/crib again in a couple of weeks maybe.  For now I'm at peace knowing we had a fantastic weekend as a family.
