The month of September was crazy busy with baby showers every weekend, and October is looking wide open and free. To make the most of our last baby-free weekends, I requested that we plan a full day of "together" activities on Saturday.
Our first stop was the Apple Festival in my hometown. The sleepy town turns into a crazy mess of people when craft and food vendors line Main Street for 2 days every October. We went early to avoid most of the crowds, and had a good time just walking the street, looking around. I managed for an hour or so before my back and pelvis really started hurting, so we made our way to the food stations for an early lunch.
I had a corndog and some awesome fresh squeezed lemonade, and Rodney had some sort of chicken teriyaki. (not pictured is the awesomely greasy funnel cake we enjoyed later at my parents' house)
Before we started our day, Rodney declared that he was going to buy something. We don't usually see anything in the craft booths that we just have to own, but for some reason he was intent on leaving with a purchase. Not long after arriving at the festival, we found it.

We saw a booth of hand-carved wooden toys, and Rodney wanted to go in and look for something for little Bruce. They had some really nice trains, cars, airplanes, and tractors, but Rodney only had eyes for the semi-truck carrying a load of alphabet blocks. Of course it was the most expensive of all the toys, but he didn't care (well, he did, because he debated the purchase for a while). We are the proud new owners of a very special truck that we hope Bruce will enjoy for years.
The rest of our Saturday included a short nap before heading out for date night. We returned a few items to Babies R Us and looked around for some items for our hospital bags, pajamas or a gown for me, and comfy lounge pants for R. He found some pants, but I decided to do my shopping when I meet up with my mom later this week.
We finished our day with a nice dinner and headed back to my parents' house to pick up Cash before finally going home. I love that my parents don't care a bit about letting Cash stay with them while we go out for a few hours. They love him so much, and I know my mom will be encouraging date nights all the time when Bruce gets here.
The weather was perfect this weekend, and even a bit cool yesterday and today. I love it! R complained (observed?) a couple of times, "It's cold in here", to which I responded by handing him a blanket and giving strict orders not to turn the heat on, not even to "knock the chill off". After a blazing hot pregnant summer, I'm in heaven curled up under a blanket.
