Levi at two months

Happy two months, baby boy!

We went to the pediatrician today and Levi weighed in at 11 lb 11 oz and 22.75 inches long. He recovered well from his first vaccinations and is currently sleeping them off.

Levi is wearing all 3 month clothes and just moved to size 2 diapers today when we used the last size 1. He still eats 4 oz every 3-3.5 hours, but sometimes he wants it closer to 2.5 hours.

Month 2 was much easier and enjoyable than month 1. At 5 weeks we took Levi for his one month checkup and mentioned to the doctor that he seemed to be fussy around 80% of the time. We could accept the fact that he was just a fussy baby if that's all it was, but we also wanted to make sure there was nothing else we could do to help him. He was already on a gentle formula and that didn't seem to help very much, so our pediatrician suggested we try him on a soy formula. I was a little iffy because of some things I had read about soy, but we decided to give it a try. Less than 2 days later we had a different baby. A happy baby. We love soy!

He is fascinated by the camera and stares at it so seriously

Sleep is getting better, too. He rarely fights sleep anymore as long as I start rocking him on time. He generally stays awake for about an hour at a time, sometimes a little less and sometimes a little more. He takes 4 naps a day with his first morning nap being the longest, often over 2 hours. We typically put him to bed between 8:30 and 8:45 and he is usually asleep around 9. He started the month waking up around 2:30-3:30 and has gradually started sleeping longer. For the past week he has been sleeping until 4-5ish, eating, then going back to sleep until he is "up for the day" around 8-8:30. (I have to add that this morning he set a record by not waking up to eat until 6:15!)

We struggled with his second horrible diaper rash of his short life this month. He was pooping many many times per day for about a week and his poor bottom was raw and bleeding. The doctor had us mix together half a tube of A&D ointment, half a tube of Desitin, 1 tablespoon of Neosporin, and 1 tablespoon of Mylanta and apply it religiously, along with only using cotton balls to clean his bottom. That concoction along with a decrease of daily bowel movements finally cleared the rash and we are still using that on him at every diaper change. His baby acne started improving, but then it started to look more like eczema on his cheeks, something Isaac struggled with as an infant and as a toddler. I started using Isaac's CeraVe cream on Levi's cheeks and it greatly improved the redness and dryness. Rodney and I don't have sensitive skin but both of our boys do. I have a feeling it's something we're going to struggle with for a while. To add to his skin issues, he developed some cradle cap this month. Yuck.

His first smile came a little after 6 weeks, and even then it was a half smile and made us question whether it was real or not. The first big smile that I could say was real was the day before he turned 7 weeks, and they have come daily ever since. He is super smiley first thing in the morning and sometimes right before bed, but not as much in between.

Levi already enjoys watching Isaac dance and play in front of him when he's resting in his bouncer. He hasn't smiled at Isaac yet, but I know it will happen soon. I can't wait to see how their relationship develops.

Levi has an awesome old man hairline. Month 2 is a big hair loss month for my boys.

As a first-time mom I didn't want my sweet tiny baby to grow up, but as a second-time mom I am so excited with every day that passes because I know how much fun they can be as they get older. Right now I love the coos and sweet smiles, but I can't wait for laughter and playing with toys.

Month 2 ended with Levi's first cold, but he has handled it like a champ. I can handle a stuffy nose, but hearing your 2 month old cough has to be one of the most pitiful sounds ever. He is already doing a little better and his sleep wasn't affected by it too much.

Our favorite baby items this month:

new discoveries...Fisher Price My Little Snugabunny Bouncer. We had a very simple bouncer that we used with Isaac and for the first 7 weeks with Levi, but we had a gift card and I found a great price on this bouncer. It is so much more comfy for him and he loves it, plus it's really easy for him to bounce himself in, something our old one didn't do very well.

returning favorites...activity gym, the swing (he finally figured out that the swing is a good thing)
