It's about time to start documenting this pregnancy. I have it all in a word document on the computer but I want to get it on the blog too. Let's start with the first trimester before catching up to real time.
My nausea started earlier with this pregnancy than with
Isaac’s pregnancy. Last time it started sometime around 7 weeks and this time
it was around 5.5 weeks. It started while Rodney was gone on his mission trip,
which would have freaked me out if I hadn't had lots of help. The day before he
got home my mom took care of Isaac while I literally laid on the couch most of
the day. The nausea started slow, then the gagging started. It started when I
had to prepare meals, then just walking into the pantry would make me gag, then
smells started to bother me. I couldn't load the dishwasher with dirty dishes
because it grossed me out so badly. For
a few weeks I was so thankful that it didn't bother me to change Isaac’s diaper,
but eventually that changed too. I did some hardcore gagging during a few
particular diaper changes.
My nausea had a pattern. I would almost always wake up
feeling fine and was able to eat a normal breakfast. I might get a little sick
or gaggy before lunch, but never much. I ate a decent lunch, then the nausea
started between 12 and 1 and lasted on and off through the evening, most of the
time lasting until I went to bed at 9 or 10.
Just like when I was pregnant with Isaac, my nausea got noticeably better around 10 weeks, and continued randomly for a couple more weeks before fading away completely. The fatigue and exhaustion was a different story.
The fatigue was something I remember very well from my first pregnancy, and it didn't disappoint this time. There were a few weeks where I would take a nap every day during Isaac's nap, but eventually that started affecting my night sleep so I had to cut back on my naps. At my 14 week appointment I told my doctor I was still completely exhausted all the time, and she said it was more than likely because I have a 2-year-old (she also has a 2-year-old). Great! I did notice a slight difference in my energy level around 16 weeks and I'm doing a little better now.
Overall this first trimester was harder and sicker than my first pregnancy, and put a little damper on the holidays since that was right in the middle of the sickness, but I'm just glad to have it behind me.
