The cats and I lived in my condo for about 2 1/2 years before I got married and we moved. I would not describe them as needy at that time, only lazy. On the very rare occasion, Zeus might bring me one of his soft balls to play with, like a dog.
When we moved into the new house, they didn't do so well for a few days. It just so happened they were both recovering from UTIs at the time and the stress of receiving medicine twice a day on top of the stress of a new home was not good for them. It was at this point that they offically became needy.
It started with their favorite toys. Zeus would carry Mr. Jingles (yes, we have names for all of them) around the house and cry. He would then drop it when he got about 4 feet away from us. Not long after that Sophie started doing it too. It happens most of the day and evening, (with all of the toys now), but we know that about 30-60 seconds after we turn off the light at bedtime, Zeus will walk into our room with a toy in his mouth, crying. There have been mornings where we wake up to find 5 or 6 toys in the bedroom floor.
Today, we woke up and found one in the bed. That's a new one. The funny thing is, when you throw the toy that they bring you, they won't even chase it. Maybe we need a cat whisperer.
