16 months

Isaac turned 16 months old on March 2, last Friday.

This age is interesting. He can be so toddler-ish some days where he just wants to be independent and throw tantrums and I have no idea what he wants, and other days are so good and easy and we have the best time together.

This post won't have many pictures because I take 98.8% of my photos with my phone now, and you see most of those in the weekly Project 365 posts, so I won't post them again.

His language continues to improve and he picked up some new words this month: cracker, tractor, quack, hot, and all gone. All gone is used to mean all gone and all done. He also sometimes says hot dog during the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse hot dog song.

Here is his complete list of words and how they sound:

kitty - ditty
doggy
daddy
moo - boo
rocky - yah-ee
hi
uh oh
diaper - bye-poo
Mickey - ditty
bye bye
cracker - ca-koo or ga-goo
tractor - tra-tee
quack - gack
hot
all gone - awwwww gah
diddy - his generic word for everything else, including vacuum cleaner, light switch, his blankie, mama, nana, and more

He cut four new teeth this month, 3 molars (one just cut through last Thursday, right before he turned 16 months) and a bottom lateral incisor, bringing his grand teeth total to 11.

Isaac was pretty sick this month with a bad cold that was possibly RSV, followed by a double ear infection, his first ever. He was cutting 2 teeth in the middle of all this, which made for a bad week. I knew he was really sick when he just wanted to lay on me and cuddle all day, which is something he never does, but the real kicker was when he lost his appetite. Isaac normally has a very healthy appetite, and it took a little hiatus for a few days this month. Don't worry, it's all back to normal now.

His latest obsession this month is crackers. Since learning to say the word, he asks for crackers all throughout the day. We took advantage of this when we had to give him an antibiotic for his ear infections. After a few days of holding him down and squirting it in his mouth, I decided to offer him a cracker afterward to help him calm down and move on. After a couple of days of that he stopped fighting the medicine and immediately asked for a cracker when it was gone. By the end of the 10 days he would see the syringe come out and start asking for the cracker then.

We have finally figured out his one nap schedule and it works great. I put him down for nap at 11:45 and he is asleep by noon, then sleeps anywhere from 1 hour 45 minutes to 2 hours 45 minutes. Bedtime is 7 and he's awake around 6:30-6:45.

Isaac still loves playing with bowls and spoons, and looking at the cows outside is always a hit. He likes some small race cars and a racetrack that we have, and he's getting pretty good at using the shape sorter. Bathtime is still his favorite part of the day and runs to the bathroom when you tell him it's time. Mickey Mouse Clubhouse always makes him happy. It used to be that he just liked the music but now he will actually sit in his little chair and watch most of an episode.

Isaac started going to Mother's Day Out this month. Once a week he goes to the home of a lady from church for a few hours. She is only keeping Isaac and another boy (10 months old), the son of a good friend of mine. It's nice for him to get used to other people caring for him and being around another child, and it's nice for me to have a few hours to myself. He's doing great there, except he won't take a nap. The first week he was still awake when I picked him up at 2:30, and the second week she had to walk him around until he passed out on her shoulder at 1:45. I'm hoping he gets used to it and eventually naps in the pack n play there. This is how I found him this week when I got there:

Crazy hair and attitude:

Love you, little buddy!
