Isaac is everywhere now! He's a full-blown boy that likes to go go go. That's not really new, but he is running now. Running and laughing and learning more every day.
Isaac is still wearing size 12 and 12-18 month clothes and size 4 diapers. We put on a pair of size 4 shoes the other day and couldn't get them on. Looks like it's time to move to size 5. I can tell he's getting taller because jeans that we used to have to roll up on the bottom now fit perfectly.
He cut a new tooth just a few days ago, his upper left one-year molar. I didn't even notice until my mother-in-law pointed it out to me. The only sign we had before that was lots of drooling, which is not normal for him. He didn't act like he was in pain at all, though.
Isaac got his first haircut this month! His hair was getting pretty long and curly and frizzy at times. Some days I loved it, and some days I couldn't wait to cut it. The bad hair days started to outnumber the good hair days, so we took the plunge. He sat so well on my lap and ate his puffs like it was no big deal. He got a little fussy at the very end, but that's because his snacks were gone and he was tired of sitting.
Isaac definitely knows what "no" means. He has for several months, but this month he started shaking his head when we told him no. He will sometimes walk toward something that he knows he shouldn't touch, then stop and shake his head no.
We have played around with the idea of one nap instead of two, but right now he's still taking two. He can do one nap if we need to (based on when he wakes up and our schedule for the day), but that's not our regular routine. I try to figure it out all the time, but I have to trust that he'll lead the way and I'll just know when the time is right.
He has entered a throwing phase, but thankfully he mostly just throws balls (for now). He's got quite the arm. He almost always throws with his left arm (but he mostly eats with his right hand, so we're not declaring him a lefty yet). He is getting better at catching balls too.
I was nervous about how he would do with the Christmas tree but he surprised me. He hardly noticed it at all, and when he did we just had to say no and he would walk away. We hung 2 Mickey Mouse ornaments at his eye level and he would occasionally touch them with one finger and smile.
His absolute favorite toys right now are a bowl and spoon. We have one large drawer that he can open and pull things out of, and on Christmas Eve I gave him a spoon to stir in the bowl he had dragged out. He loved it! I knew he was getting a LeapFrog Potsy for Christmas from someone, so I knew he would love that too. Potsy is ok, but he still prefers a regular bowl and spoon. It holds his attention longer than any other toy.
We moved to the big bathtub this month, but only because our inflatable duck tub sprung a leak and would not hold air anymore.
He can moo when you ask him what a cow says.
He can identify nose, ear, and mouth when you ask.
He imitates some words that we say, like kick, fish, and Cash. He also loves to imitate when you call for someone across the house. "Graaaampy!"
He now points and claps his hands, both new this month. I love the pointing, because it opens a tiny line of communication. He points to what he wants and says "daggie" (like doggie, but with an A), which is his word for EVERYTHING these days.
This is such a fun age and I'm loving (almost) every minute of it! Rodney and I are always questioning how we got so lucky with such an amazing little boy. I didn't know it was possible, but I fall more in love with him every day.
