13 months

It only took a month, but I finally think of Isaac as a one-year-old. I'm seeing less baby in him every day. He is such a funny kid right now, and I am loving this phase.

He was 21 lbs 4 oz at his 12 month checkup. Still wearing size 4 diapers, size 4 shoes, and 12 month clothes. He wears some 6-12 and some 12-18 in the brands that size that way.

He is still taking 2 naps a day, but that may be changing soon. He was sleeping from 9-10:30 or 11, then taking an afternoon nap starting at 1:30 or 2 for maybe 1.5 hours. This week he has been fighting both naps, rolling around in his crib for 30-45 minutes (ore more) before falling asleep. I have a feeling we'll be transitioning to one nap very soon.
This picture cracks me up. Not only is he wearing mismatched pajamas (thanks to daddy), I love that only Elmo's eyes are peeking out of his pants. Haha!
The month started out rough on the milk front, but it has gotten so much better. We switched his midday bottle to a sippy cup a week before his birthday. The day after his birthday we switched his morning bottle to a sippy cup of milk. For a few weeks he was drinking anywhere from .25 oz to 1.5 oz per cup. We had been using straw cups since that is what he drank water from, but I also tried many different types of cups. We were using straw cups because he hadn't figured out how to tip back a regular cup to get the liquid out, but last week it just clicked for him and he started drinking 3-5 oz per cup. He now tips his cup back like a pro and usually drinks 5 oz of milk in his morning and midday sippy cups. We kept his bedtime bottle just to make sure he got a good dose of milk every day, but now I feel like we're getting much closer to dropping that and giving him a third sippy of milk with dinner.

The biggest change I have noticed this month is that he's developing a sense of humor. We bought him a new winter hat that he looks super cute in, and he laughs his head off when we put it on him. He knows he looks funny and cute.

I hear the word "doggy" about 500 times a day. He used to love the word "kitty". He would announce anytime he saw a kitty and loved petting the kitties and looking at kitties in books. About a week ago it changed to doggy. He lets us know when he sees the doggy, he calls the cats doggy, and the other day we saw a porcupine on tv that he also called doggy. Whenever we leave the house, we put Cash in his crate and after that I put Isaac's shoes and coat on. Cash usually barks while we do this, which prompts Isaac to say doggy over and over again until we get to the car. He still doesn't say mama, and sometimes says something that sounds like daddy. Other than that, he babbles all the time. He strings together sounds that are similar to sentences, like he is carrying on a conversation with us.

Isaac loves carrying things around the house. The other day I put him down for nap and realized my kitchen floor had a book, a tube of diaper rash cream, and 2 Scentsy bars strewn across the floor. In the living room I found a taco kit in a box from the pantry. I used to let him carry my wireless mouse around but I got tired of doing a 5 minute search for it every time I put him down for nap.

We're dealing with some separation anxiety, which is completely normal for this age. He's right on schedule. He has been doing to the church nursery every Sunday since he was 5 months old and he has started crying when we drop him off for the past month or so. His teachers are great, and they distract him with puffs and say he calms down quickly, but it's not pleasant to leave my screaming baby. One of my friends was in the nursery during church last week and she said every time someone came to the door he looked like he was expecting it to be us and would get a little upset. Poor little guy. I've heard this lasts until about 18 months and then just goes away.

Other notables:

- This month he figured out how to stand up on his own in the middle of the room.

- He points the remote towards the tv and looks at it expecting something to happen

- He plays with his toys so much more now. At his first birthday I didn't know what we were going to do with all the new toys because he didn't play with any toys, but now he will go to his toy corner of the living room and play happily by himself again.

- He loves to play ball with us. He can semi-throw the ball and loves when we "throw" it back.

- He loves to share now, and will often hand over anything that you ask him to. This is particularly helpful when he has something that he shouldn't.

- We had our first poop in the tub experience this month. I'm so glad my mom happened to be here that night because it took all 3 of us to deal with it.

- He still loves books, especially Good Night, Moon. Five Little Monkeys Jumping On The Bed has also made it to his list of favorites this month.

- He pulls his socks off all the time and will sometimes try to put them back on. It doesn't work very well.

- At nap time I give him his paci and tell him it's time to go night night, then we walk around the house until we find his blankie, then walk together to his room. It's adorable!

- Any pre-toddler tantrums that October gave us went on hiatus in November. He is so happy and funny these days.
