skunked!

I have not been sleeping well lately. Besides waking up 2-3 times a night to stumble to the bathroom in the dark, I toss and turn all night long. I was actually sleeping really well yesterday morning when Rodney woke me up at 6:15 with the words, "I need your help."

He let Cash outside when he woke up, and when he let him back in he smelled something skunk-y. Rodney always wake up stuffy and couldn't tell if a skunk had sprayed outside, or if it was Cash, but he quickly figured out it was Cash. It was pouring rain so Rodney threw him in the garage and set off to find out how to clean him up and get the smell out. He found out he needed hydrogen peroxide, baking soda, and dish soap, and woke me up to tell me he was on his way to the store to get those. Luckily, I was able to tell him we had all of those at the house.

We gave Cash 2 full baths with the solution, then scrubbed his face down another time or two, since that's where he was actually sprayed and smelled the worst. You would never be able to tell now that he was sprayed by a skunk unless you got right up in his face. The worst part was airing our house out. Cash was inside for a minute or less and the front part of our house smelled awful! We sprinkled baking soda on the carpet and vacuumed twice, and left the windows open all day, and it actually doesn't smell too bad now.

I feel so blessed to have the best dog who tolerates almost anything and was an angel the whole time we were scrubbing him. He's going to be such a good big brother.
