Changes

It's the end of January and time for an update on a New Year's goal.

The scale says that I've only lost 5 pounds, but I can see some bigger changes in myself.

First of all, my attitude has changed. I'm more motivated than I've ever been. A couple of weeks ago I was getting frustrated about not losing weight like I feel like I should be, and was expressing this to Rodney. He said to me, "Julie, please don't quit. I've seen this before, and I know when you don't see results right away, that's when you just stop." Without thinking, I told him I was not going to quit because I definitely wouldn't lose any weight if I quit now. That's when I realized just how motivated I am. The old me would have given up, but I keep pushing ahead. Rodney sees the changes in my attitude, too. He tells me every day how proud of me he is, and that really helps me keep going.

I feel so much better now that I'm eating healthy. A couple of weeks into my new way of eating, I was starting to hit a wall and craving something unhealthy. We went to a basketball game that weekend with some friends and I ate a candy bar and nachos, just to satisfy the craving and move on. Later that day I started feeling sluggish, and I'm convinced it was because of the junk food.

I've also been drinking lots of water. I know not everyone needs 8 cups a day, but that's what I've been aiming for. Sometimes it's 6, sometimes it's 9, but I definitely been guzzle water now.

Finally, I actually enjoy working out now. Well, sort of. I enjoy my treadmill. In the past I have failed at programs like 30 Day Shred and C25K. Since I know I don't do well at following programs, I set a goal of walking on the treadmill 30 minutes a day, 4-5 times a week. I would walk at a brisk pace, but it was easy enough to not let myself make excuses for not doing it.

This next part is laughable, but the key to my walking success has been my Harry Potter podcast, Mugglecast. The 30 minutes fly by when I'm listening to those guys talk about something I'm actually interested in. Now that I'm comfortable with 30 minutes, I'm going to try to stretch it to 45. And please feel free to share with me some of your favorite podcasts.

Ok, that's enough rambling for one post, but I wanted to document some of my changes and keep the motivation going strong.

I know exactly what you mean. I am/was the same way. I would see results fast enough and I would quit, but this time around I'm much more motivated. We started the Eat Clean Diet and I've been going to the gym regularly. And I listen to Twilight Series Theories, lol. It makes it so I can't even believe that my work out is over.

And by the way, 5 pounds is awesome!

Good for you! 5 lbs is great!! I haven't been keeping to my diet thanks to vacation and the move, but I am getting serious about it now that we are home!
