playing catch-up

I have been away from the blog for a while, I just haven't felt inspired to sit down and write words. This post will be a review of the past couple of weeks.

At the end of June we spent a day on the lake with some friends in their parents' boat. It was quite an adventure as the anchor wasn't heavy enough to hold the boat and when we couldn't get it to start up again, we ended up drifting into the sand and had to call J's dad to help us. Of course when he got there it started right up. We still had a great time.

We spent the 4th of July at R's cousin's house, eating lots of good food and shooting our own fireworks.
R played cornhole for the first time. I love his look of dedication as he makes his toss.

We also got to check in on 2 of our former foster kittens, now named Casper and Wendy. They are loving their new home. Casper even took a nap in my lap just like he used to.

We finally caught our mama cat (Liddy) this weekend! At first she was going in the trap and eating, but not stepping on the plate that triggered the door to close. Rodney made a few adjustments to the trap and we had to tie some cooked chicken to a string, then tie that to the back of the trap. It sounds crazy, but it worked. My only regret is that we did it on Friday night, so she had to spend all night in the trap. We took dropped her off at the vet on Saturday morning, but she won't have surgery until Monday, so she had to spend all weekend in a cage at the vet's office. Considering how she is feral and pretty scared of humans, I'm afraid it was a very stressful experience for her. But it's for her own good, and we will not have any more kittens at our house. We will be releasing her when we bring her home, following the Trap-Neuter-Release method.
This guy got a bath today in anticipation of a very special day tomorrow. He doesn't hate baths like some dogs, but they're definitely not his favorite times.
