12 months

I have a 12-month-old!

Let's get right down to the stats.

We go next week for his 12 month appointment, so I'll update with weight and height then. Isaac is wearing a size 4 diaper, size 4 shoe, and mostly 12 month clothes, with the occasional 12-18 month thrown in.

He typically sleeps from 7 or 7:30 pm to 6:30 am and takes 2 naps a day, totally 2.5-3 hours.

Another tooth broke through this month, bringing his total to 6 -- 4 on top, 2 on bottom

He is a full-time walker, although he still can't stand up in the middle of the floor by himself. He needs to crawl to a chair, wall, person, etc. to pull himself up on.

He says "kitty" (sounds like giggy), and sometimes we think he says "doggy", but no mama or dada. Of course he babbles those sounds/words, but never in context referring to me or R.

He has a deep love for his blankie. He carries it around the house and holds is on the side of his face when he gets tired.

I love watching him learn and seeing that he understands some things we say now. If I ask him if he's ready to eat, he'll hold his arms up for me to pick him up and put him in the highchair. If I ask where the ball is, he goes to it. If I say "Let's go find Dada", he'll do it. Of course he understands "kitty" and will look for one. My favorite is probably "Do you want to watch Mickey?". He gets SO excited, toddles toward the living room, and stares at the tv until I turn it on.

We sent birthday messages to Brinkley and my dad this month.

He loves flipping through is board books. His favorite right now is "Good Night, Moon". We've been reading it for the past 12 months, but the past 2 weeks he has really shown a reaction to it. He smiles and gets so happy when we read it (which is usually every night now). The only other book he has reacted that way to is "Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?". He has loved that one since he was very young. He also really likes "lift-the-flap" books right now.

His favorite song right now is the Itsy Bitsy Spider, and you're guaranteed to get a smile or laugh when you sing that song.

He loves to eat and has the appetite of a grown man, or at least it seems that way sometimes. He is picky about his veggies, but he loves all fruit. He'll eat almost anything you put in front of him, except sweet potatoes, oddly enough. He's not a fan of sweet potatoes.

We've made the transition from formula to whole cow's milk. He has done well with that, but he is not liking the transition from bottle to sippy cup. I dropped his midday bottle last week and only offer the sippy cup at that time now, but he typically only drinks about half an ounce. I'm hesitant to drop another bottle since he drinks them so well and I worry about his milk intake. This will be a main topic of discussion with the pediatrician next week.

The past 12 months have been joyous, difficult, exciting, and exhausting, but I wouldn't change a thing. We are so blessed to have Isaac in our lives. I love you, Isaac. Happy birthday!

I hate that I got his 12 month post up a day late, but we had such a busy day yesterday. We celebrated all day, and we're all still exhausted. More to come later...
