Levi at 2 years

My baby is 2 years old!

I have to say, I love this age! Even with the strong will and the tantrums, Levi is so much fun right now.

Levi is currently wearing 2T or 24 month clothes, tops and bottoms. He is wearing size 6.5 shoes. He weighs in at 29 pounds and his length is a little unclear. The pediatrician wrote 35.5 inches on our paper, but I'm almost certain I heard the nurse say 33.25 inches when she measured him. Plus, Isaac was only 34.5 inches at 2 years and I'm pretty sure Levi is shorter than Isaac was. He's a shorty!

Levi is getting very good at pretend play and loves his play kitchen and food. In fact, we got him some nicer play food for his birthday and it is getting plenty of use already. He also loves to kick a ball or balloon around a room and will do that for a long time. Lenny has been one of our nicknames for him for a while, and when he starts kicking a ball around we call him "Soccer Man Lenny". He will actually kick the ball and yell Soccer Man Lenny!

He still loves playing in the water table outside and has warmed up to the kiddie pool, as well. He enjoys swinging more now than he used to, and the sandbox is still popular.

Levi is in a huge book phase right now. He loves to read book after book by himself and we have also started a separate book time on Isaac's bed between bath and bedtime. We all pile on the bed and read a few books, with Levi always pointing and saying "one more!". He is starting to really listen to the stories and I love watching his face as he studies the pictures.

He can count to at least 11 (when he wants to) and can identify circle, star, and heart. He is starting to realize that everything has a color and tries to identify colors, but rarely gets it right. He loves to guess blue for most things, but he gets orange right most of the time. I think he actually knows orange. He has mastered most of our chunky wood puzzles and tries to help Isaac with our floor puzzles, but obviously doesn't get those right.

His language has improved so much in the past few months and he talks fairly well, if I do say so myself. I'm not sure how much other people can understand outside of me and Rodney (and Isaac, who is our best interpreter), but I understand 95%. Sometimes he shocks me with how many words he can put together to form a sentence, and sometimes he is simple and says "Ball is?" (Where is the ball?)

Levi gets to ride forward-facing in the car now! So much easier to hand him things and have Isaac hand him things.

For Levi's birthday we gave him a big "Wo Wo" blanket to replace his little ones. The first day at nap time he threw it out of his crib. I thought for sure we had wasted our money and he wouldn't adjust to it. That night before bed Rodney pretended like it was his blanket and tried to cuddle up with it, and after that Levi took possession of it and hasn't looked back. He now loves it just as much as his little blankies.

Since this is a late post, I'll give a late update. We have been talking to him randomly for several weeks about one day giving his pacifiers to a baby who needs them more than he does. We've been building up to the big day, and last week I decided (in a moment of insanity?) that it was time to try it. I put him down for nap on Wednesday, exactly 2 weeks after his birthday, and asked him if he thought he could take a nap without his paci. He said ok and I laid him down like normal and ran to get the monitor to see what he was doing. He didn't cry or fuss one tiny bit. He talked to himself and rolled around the crib for a few minutes, then went to sleep. He took a normal nap and did wake up grumpy, but that might not have had anything to do with the lack of paci. He cried out a few times the first few nights, but always put himself back to sleep quickly. He's still waking up earlier than normal, but I can't do anything about that. Overall, taking his paci away went amazingly well! Next stop, big boy bed!

Have I mentioned how much I love this kid? And how fun he is? We have such a fun time together every day. This summer has been a blast.
